Legislators have introduced at least 40 bills in 20 states that would expand the powers of poll watchers. What could go wrong? A lot. https://t.co/X3C7MXtMWf

Crime isn’t real, writes Emile DeWeaver, in the same way race isn’t real. There is a conflation between myth and reality when it comes to crime but these narratives are “political projects aimed at political ends.” https://t.co/zlp0iYKXOJ

As state legislatures perpetuate the myth that voting by mail is insecure, it’s essential to call out undemocratic efforts to prevent certain people from voting. https://t.co/Q08KalagwT

Even if mass incarceration was abolished, racism would still exist, writes @drtedj. “To establish an unbiased justice system loosened from punitive excess and mass incarceration, we must reckon with the central role race plays in systemic outcomes.” https://t.co/D1V6w1vnUC

We have an epidemic of police brutality in America. One way to stop this abuse is for Congress to revise the federal law known as Section 242 and make it easier to win convictions against officers who violate people's civil rights. https://t.co/wkil8h18cf

Today’s indictment is rare as federal prosecutors don’t often bring Section 242 civil rights charges, in fact averaging only 41 cases per year. Last week @BrennanCenter published a report recommending changes to make it easier to win convictions for these civil rights violations

Notwithstanding boasts that Florida’s 2020 Election was administered well, the Fl Gov just signed SB 90 making it harder for voters to request mail ballots and return their ballots 1/

Our right to vote is fundamental. We should be looking for ways to make voting more free, fair, and accessible. We should be looking at evidence and data about what went wrong and what works. Laws like SB 90 do none of that. 4/

The law limits the times that ballots can be returned through drop boxes to early voting hours. This will unnecessarily reduce access for people who are nervous about relying on the mail, and need more flexibility in their schedule. Which is a lot of people these days. 2/

10/10 Lets never forget that FB sent this to the Board, Trump didn't appeal. They put this hot potato in the Board's lap, but probably got more than they bargained for.

7/10 They took FB to task in a number of really significant ways: asking questions (which FB didn't answer) about how its own algorithms contributed to the problem & recommended that FB review its own culpability in the situation. I'm not holding my breath though.
