Kate Winslet does a pretty good Philly accent in #MareOfEasttown. The locals do even better. Also wonderful to see my friend the late and great Phyllis Somerville. Before she died she asked me about the Philly accent. And we practiced it over the phayowen. She was the best.

Agreed! In every film set in Philadelphia the "locals" sound like they're from Brooklyn, not Broad Street. A hayoagie, a cheesesteak and a wooder ice for #KateWinslet for doing sayoe much hayoawmwerk. Anna trip dayownashore. https://t.co/q7lUjtTRtz

Gospel: When the Risen Christ appears before the disciples, they are terrified, and thought they were seeing a ghost (Lk 24). Maybe some of them also thought Jesus would rebuke or punish them for having denied or abandoned him. But the Risen One offers them only his peace... https://t.co/q2C4kKp8gv

The dumbest thing that my alma mater ever did was to pass over this great man (and great provost) for the position of president. (The rumor at the time was that he was too much for the Philadelphia bluebloods.) He proved them wrong. May he rest in peace. https://t.co/mSad3IO46W

Gospel: Today Jesus walks on the water in the midst of a raging storm (Jn 6). As in the post-resurrection appearances, when the disciples are also afraid, Jesus offer his peace. In the midst of life's storms, God's voice is always that of calm and hope, never terror or despair. https://t.co/TygYIdMDeJ

Join us for Faith Sharing on my Facebook page today at 3 PM ET. We'll be looking at Sunday's Gospel reading, for the Third Sunday of Easter, when the Risen Christ appears to the disciples (Lk 24: 35-48). The following week we'll begin a book club on "Jesus: A Pilgrimage."

(1) Just became real emotional. In 1980 I was pulled over in Worthington, OH after a cop saw me pass his parked car. I had IL plates and he asked why was I driving here at 11:30p & said I had been driving erratically. I told him “WE” were on our way to an all-night restaurant ...
