Discovered in this (fine in essence) piece the particular combination of words most capable of irritating me today. Sanders was being "doctrinal" by emphasizing unions/redistribution while Warren was being a modernist socialist by...rejecting socialism?

One of the things I've found genuinely perplexing in all this is the frequent emphasis on party unity coming from some on Labour's left. Seems to me there's no point in seeking unity with people who are trying to destroy you.

Fun fact: it's entirely possible not to staff a governing administration with corporate operatives, Wall Street managers, weapons industry shills, and fossil fuel industry hacks if you so choose

Biden is the next FDR and plans to take bold and ambitious action on climate change. I am a very serious and historically-informed pundit and I will absolutely not back down from this.

Gerardo Gutierrez, a 70 year old employee at Florida's Publix supermarket chain, wanted to wear a mask at work. The company prevented him, and he died alone - having said goodbye to his children over Zoom. The American economy subsists on social murder.

See, this is exactly why Sanders shouldn't join Biden's cabinet. It's largely a moot issue since Biden would never appoint him, but the point of putting him in cabinet would be to mute his dissent - which I think there will probably be plenty of in the years to come.

Bernie Sanders
If Amazon workers in Alabama – a strong anti-union state – vote to form a union, it will be a shot heard around the world. If they can negotiate higher wages and better working conditions in the South, it will benefit every worker in America. I strongly support their efforts.

NEW with ⁦⁦@ErinBanco⁩, ⁦⁦@HCTrudo⁩ & ⁦@samstein⁩: Biden is considering Mike Morell, a defender of CIA torture and drone strikes, for CIA director. Progressive opposition is already building.

A terrible sign for any attempt to prevent climate change. Not least because this man was head of "sustainable investing" at BlackRock while it poured gasoline on deforestation of Amazon, which is on the brink of sending us down a climate doom spiral.

the point of multibillion-dollar national elections is to make sure that the government-in-exile at think tanks and corporate consultancies can get back into power to get even fancier titles for the next future trip through the revolving door

The F-35 program is gonna cost more than $1 trillion over its lifetime, for some 4000+ jets. a fraction of that number have actually been constructed. so, yes, if we stop making them to sell, we don’t spend the money to make them.

Incisive point from @OsitaNwanevu: the lie that bipartisanship is the solution to our problems and that partisanship is their cause has also played a role in eroding people’s trust in facts and their relationship to any sort of baseline consensus reality

Michael Bloomberg became $6.89 billion richer during the pandemic, while he used prison labor for his campaign. Listening to Bloomberg will backfire on us all. One more reason why billionaires should not exist.

Stories of hunger going way up are all over the place In 2019, 9% of ppl in Rhode Island said they couldn't feed themselves and their families. Now? It's *** 25% *** "a rate not seen since the Great Depression"

There's additional horror not explicit in this report: in many of these states, non-disabled adults can only apply for Medicaid if they have a child or if they make a fraction of the poverty level ($4300/year in GA). We're subsidizing Wal*Mart to exploit people most in need

Biden’s attempted bipartisan and unifying approach is to...accommodate and reconcile with a party that refuses to accept the results of the election or the legitimacy of Democratic votes
