Excellent post from @rebeccawb and @mathiasverraes on the role of Ubiquitous Language in software design "Ubiquitous Language is: a constructed, formalized language, agreed upon by stakeholders and designers, to serve the needs of our design." https://t.co/wkaGZF8jHm

The latest macos update seems to have broken my wife's @VMware fusion unity mode. Anyone else had that problem?

💯 These two years have not been "working from home". They have been "at home in adversity, trying to work". https://t.co/RXvfMnUsde

Tonight I'm streaming a game I've really enjoyed recently. Furnace is a short game with a really interesting auction mechanism. https://t.co/7yIYFeXnDk

This analysis reminds me of an admirer of Fox news who said their triumph was identifying a category of people, figuring what kind of "news" they wanted to hear, and selling that to them. Excellent business strategy, but fearful externalities https://t.co/26dG6ocIvQ

Notable increase in ads in my twitter feed this morning. I wonder if that will make me want to use the platform less in the future.

This Opinion piece in the Washington Post is worth a close reading (and a possible way to have a discussion w/your vax adverse friends): Remaining unvaccinated in public should be considered as bad as drunken driving https://t.co/M0PiTzzrGg

I have been called to trial on October 21-22. This goes against all legal norms in Ecuador, since the previous phase of pre-trial was not finished, that judge has been recused and most of the documentation that COIP requires to go to trial was never submitted. 1/2 https://t.co/xqSaI7Zt7L

Loved this article from @patkua from 2013 explaining the power of measurement and Goldratt's "Tell me how you measure me and I will tell you how I behave" applied to IT metrics. Be careful with what you measure and how. https://t.co/9lMJOojQVd

Don't Compare Averages, by @martinfowler, prompted me to prioritize development of the Strip Plot chart type in Content Chimera. Excellent article: https://t.co/YCxvBhR3q1. Useful in comparing content effectiveness (for instance, average pageviews by content type & site section).

I have a confession to make. I've been in this game for 20+ years, and I never read @martinfowler's Refactoring. I figured I knew how to do it. "I do it all the time." "It's actually one of the things I'm good at." I'm now half-way through and I'm a better programmer.

If my code doesn’t work for the changes someone needs to make, I am delighted when they refactor the shit out of it. It means I wrote code that a random person some time in the future felt safe and confident modifying. That is always my goal.
12 Aug, 2021 - 11:06 PM UTC
A great example of how to refactor code where concerns got mixed up. Also, a nice callout that the word "refactoring" gets misused often, and really only means to change code in a specific way "by a series of tiny behavior-preserving transformations." https://t.co/kiZjbfjAtl

"it looks bad to be learning at work". Hate to break it to you, Mr. Boss Loser, but the two fundamental skills of programming are Learning and Communications. If you don't have time or inclination for that, then you better outsource to someone who does. https://t.co/7RfhtSPZfk
