Just watched #14Peaks on @netflix and it was an incredible story. Inspired by the audacity and resilience of @nimsdai and his on-point commentary on the invisibility of Nepali mountaineers and sherpas who become “ghosts” in the shadows of Western mountaineers. Highly recommend.

The amount of time and money wasted by this country’s elected officials over nonsensical bills like this is astounding. But then again, it’s about the message these bills send to the masses to shape culture, not always about the actual passing and implementing of the law. https://t.co/nFpryejP9L

Meanwhile I hear some tech companies have been stockpiling covid tests and sending them to their *work-from-home* employees on a monthly, some weekly, basis. If you work at one of those tech companies, please consider redistributing the kits to folks who need them more. https://t.co/7A1uNGBODP

“I need you to care about disabled people’s lives more than you care about a vacation, a party or a celebration. A cornerstone of being disabled in an ableist world is isolation. This is part of the trauma of ableism.” @miamingus Reading and reflecting. https://t.co/BJTayPQWW9

OMG, didnt know folks were doing this. Please don’t. We can grieve Michelle without misappropriating the work of Black feminists. What invisibilizes racist/sexist violence as experienced by AsAm women is diff than problems highlighted by #SayHerName. We shouldn’t confuse the two https://t.co/9k1K7N4bZN

The fact that there's flooding here in Santa Cruz, CA due to the underwater eruption in Tonga is why Epeli Hau'ofa regarded Oceania as a sea of islands vs. simply islands in the sea. We're defined by the Pacific, not by the smallness of our islands. Look at the impact

The term "mild" has been hijacked by uber capitalists so they can avoid implicating themselves as they push workers back to dangerous work situations. And if you do end up with full blown COVID, tough luck, they say. They blame it on poor choices and move on.

A valuable lesson from The Wake Up by @mjmichellekim is recognizing the tokenized pressure on one person representing their entire culture. I’m in FL & often the only Asian in many spaces. I become an expert-authority on all things Asian. A lot of labor & I’m never compensated.

Well meaning doesn’t absolve your harm. Therein lays the hard work of DEI. As someone who has caused harm, are you willing to do the work to understand it, acknowledge, and learn rather than feel defensive? At any rate, read those new books from @mjmichellekim and @MindaHarts.

@sarahnollwilson A persistent belief in the binary, that we’re either good or bad, racist or non-racist, sexist or not. And a fear of being put in the opposite group vs. how we see ourselves (and how we want to be seen). @mjmichellekim ‘s book delves into this, pressing us to see (1/2)

Helping us more clearly see how and when and why that happens—especially in our own interactions, especially when it can cause us to inadvertently harm those we care about and work with—is just one way The Wake Up can transform our good intentions into real change. 4/5
