I might be a professor, but my love for cricket borders on my teenage son’s fascination for football/soccer. I was an admirer of Saurav Ganguly. He really lifted Indian cricket during his cricketing days, but how he has dealt with Virat Kohli now can only bring India down. Awful!

The idea that India’s home market is big enough to generate high economic growth and increasing trade tariffs won’t hurt is a flawed economic fantasy | Thoughtful column by @andymukherjee70 | https://t.co/J1DrMBBh5R

By Kohli’s own admission, India’s batting is a problem. India has been winning abroad -Australia, England-because of fast bowling, something India was not known for (unlike Pakistan), ably supported by spin. At home, spin dominates, and fast bowlers play a supportive role.(1/n)

After how badly England have been thrashed in Australia this season, the victory of India’s cricket team last year in Australia becomes even bigger than we had originally thought.

“Boosted”but also canceled a trip to India in January. Was so looking forward to visiting after two years, but the awful virus and travel uncertainties have upended the plans. Hope it will be possible to visit in March, the next window for longish travel.

A call to mass murder is not only condemnable, but also liable under Indian law| If the govt. does not take action against these speakers, however religious they might be, it will only demonstrate complicity| India's drift into savagery against its own citizens must be arrested| https://t.co/p4mIjJEmPU

Exactly right. Varanasi is not simply the land of Hindu religiosity, but also a land of Bismilla Khan & Girija Devi, two of the greatest stars of Hindustani classical. They were what the scholarly world calls syncretistic, meaning a micx of all religious traditions of India. https://t.co/YERQMAanrK

Hindus have to prove that they have not been absorbed by the RSS completely.Tthey can do it in polls if not elsewhere. But it is unacceptable that political parties behave as if Muslims and Christians are not equal people and their dignity and lives don’t matter.

I am disheartened that 2021 is ending with the Omicron. I have been reluctant to comment on COVID in 2022 as I just feel tired. However, for a lecture on Monday, I realized I cannot avoid talking about the "Omicron in the room." So here is a 10-point strategy, adapted for India.

Consider the semiotics and propriety of these photos and then ask how to square them with the dictum that justice must also be seen to be done. What exactly are we seeing in this photo? What does it mean when judges 'celebrate' the verdict in a case that had contesting parties? https://t.co/MzKNSHTf2O

Thought for the day: More than 70 % ‘male’ Indians eat non veg. When it comes to food habits, most Indians have always lived by the dictum: live and let live. It’s governments who seek to enter and police our kitchens.
