Plenty I like in the tax proposal, but I’m quite concerned by the proposal to make a retroactive change to the treatment of retirement accounts. Sets a terrible precedent to do this ex post facto, even if you strongly support the underlying idea.

Feels slightly surreal to watch bad cryptocurrency policy drive innovation out of the US. For all of our flaws, I really do think of the US as the best country in the world for building the future. Hope this is not a sign of a trend.

The more agonizingly difficult a decision is, the less it matters. (Obviously not always true, but directionally speaking if it's really difficult to decide between two options, they are approximately equally good.)

The thing I don't understand about haters is how they can be so certain something is a bad idea, or won't lead somewhere worthwhile. I never feel sure something will work, but any study of history suggests it's even harder to be certain in the other direction.

Right now feels like February 2020, when very few people were taking this thing called coronavirus seriously, and lockdowns seemed unimaginable.

"The thing I have noticed is when the anecdotes and the data disagree, the anecdotes are usually right. There's something wrong with the way you are measuring it" -Jeff Bezos This is how I feel about SF crime data. Almost everyone I know who lives here is experiencing more.

The Financial Times wrote that "OpenAI ranks as one of the most unusual organizations on the planet". I’ve been here just over a year and I must agree! Here’s a thread.

We’re releasing Triton 1.0, an open-source Python-like programming language for writing efficient GPU code. OpenAI researchers with no GPU programming experience have used Triton to produce kernels that are 2x faster than their PyTorch equivalents. https://t.co/bdovUjTMuF

I've had the chance to try out GitHub Copilot for the last 20 days or so, during the private beta. 🧪 It's seriously mind-blowing, difficult to overhype. 🤯 This is the future of coding, AI used to make us all even more productive. 🚀🤩 https://t.co/CkzIv8ZhZb

That's the danger of trying to ban the discussion of some hypotheses. What if the hypothesis you ban turns out to be the correct one?

We've found we can improve AI language model behavior and reduce harmful content by fine-tuning on a small, carefully designed dataset, and we are already incorporating this in our safety efforts. https://t.co/nJISaAyY2M

Something I taught my 12 yo: Most people underestimate how much the world can change, and practically no one can predict where the change will happen. The only thing you can predict for sure is that some very surprising things will happen.

I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump from Twitter, or how we got here. After a clear warning we’d take this action, we made a decision with the best information we had based on threats to physical safety both on and off Twitter. Was this correct?
