It’s both quality and heart/spirit. Japan, Korea and Morocco haven’t had the quality/skill of the big teams, but put in unmatched effort to win against difficult odds. US men’s team haven’t shown much of either. Leaving players unmarked, not getting back, not putting in the work. https://t.co/dde5kb4y9x

If every Black person had a college degree, we’d still have less than half the wealth of white high school grads and 1/6th the wealth of white college degree holders. Educational scholarships aren’t going to fix this. https://t.co/cWzKEMG9n9 https://t.co/cmCvIA1sR0

This is an important first step but four of these five states already pay prison laborers $0.04-$1.00/hr. Removing this language from the constitution won’t change that. Incarcerated workers should get the same rights as other workers, with minimum wage protections. https://t.co/BSF44BEEDR

Kinda fun to watch the “We’re proud of you boys, great effort” for the WC team, knowing that the last TWO times the men’s basketball team failed to win a gold medal they tore the entire program down and rebuilt it from the ground up

An economist did an experiment by emailing ~2000 police agencies asking for help filing a complaint. He randomized the “sender’s” name to signal race/ethnicity and sex. Overall RR 67%; agencies less likely to respond to emails signed w/Black or Hispanic names. #AcademicTwitter https://t.co/5XGtfPnXYW

The thing about the right-wing news ecosystem is that you don't have to do any reporting, reveal any facts or even have a plausible story. You just have to make it *look* like a bombshell.

America's most comprehensive database of police violence shows that cops have killed 1,054 people in less than 11 months of 2022. And Black people, just 13% of the U.S. population, are 24% of those killed! We have to end this needless cycle of death! https://t.co/fZGWH1n3SI

The message I take from this is that the new owner of this platform considers any conversation you ever have or had across twitter’s email servers fair game to hand to a Substack sex pest to publish if it suits his purposes.

We thought these whites might reject this information due to motivated reasoning. Interestingly, they were skeptical of the information, yet were influenced by it! So, opp to antiracism is not a total barrier to communicating accurate information about racial discrimination. https://t.co/CgchvD9l3A

Opposition to antiracism (or, anti-antiracism) is more strongly related to Trump support than almost any measure we examine (e.g., political ideology, socioeconomic variables, racial resentment, explicit racism, endorsement of stereotypes, IAT). https://t.co/uMukVSZZjJ

The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 had the support of 100,000 workers after wages were cut for the 3rd time in a year. Railroad barons used militias, the National Guard, and federal troops to stop the strike by killing about 100 people. They don't teach any of this in school.

Having been looking at the output of some woo merchants lately, one of things I'm struck by is how many things that they claim to be mysteries simply aren't. A really common one is Inca architecture "How did they do it???? ALIENS!!!!" Well, no. They did it like this A 🧵 1/n https://t.co/vShrgbWi9O
