Wow, how can anyone interpret or debate the RCT results in this age group when the conclusion has already been decided? Psst....The trial is underpowered for relevant AEs. Why did we even run a trial, if we already approved it in our minds?

A media machine that has pumped out fear-mongering stories about kids & covid (and still continues) until we shut down schools for over a year (worst policy ever) has left us in a mental state incapable of deciphering the results of 5-11 vaccine trial.

Gonna have a longer piece come out soon, but bottom line: You cannot mandate 2 doses of vax for boys 12 and up to attend a public school in America. The UK won't even let them get the second dose to shield them from AEs. That is an error motivated by irrationality & fear https://t.co/skT5Mt32PJ

Uncontrolled data from Israel might be acceptable for an accelerated approval in a rare disease setting with dire outcomes, pending confirmatory study It is not appropriate for a regulatory decision affecting 50 million healthy people

The next few mo are key Boosters & Kids 5 to 11 We have had 2 key resignations at FDA Political pressure for an unrealistic timeline Ambiguous, weak evidence What is at stake is not just sars-cov-2, but public faith in vaccination past, present & future God help us

Mark Gorelik, pediatrician, is right Fearmongering stories about kids is going to distort all balanced dialog about kids vaccine. No matter what the RCT shows, people want to approve it; This is not science, it is collective anxiety https://t.co/M3V0jTXQ8P

wtf? Boosters cannot be decided by politicians. There is no good efficacy or safety data to date. Even a small, unanticipated safety signal after dose 3 is going to do massive damage for vaccines for decades to come. https://t.co/lwQgqmeLzj

Another failed policy Border closures may work for small, geographically isolated nations for some time, but they are not sustainable for large countries. Variants will all spread anyway, and the human downside is real https://t.co/VGedPyCNpH

Asymptomatic testing of highly vaccinated young populations (e.g college) serves no purpose. 1. No one will follow similar restrictions off campus (aka pointless) 2. These kids are going to get SarsCOV 2 eventually (endemic) 3. It will disrupt their life 4. Policies...

Over the next decade, every person on earth will meet sars-cov-2. Non-immune adults would be best off meeting the virus after 2 doses vaccination, boosters should be tested in RCTs for endpt: severe disease, but avoiding the virus indefinitely is not possible

John Ioannidis is back with a 22 page article on vaccinating kids & college students He grapples with the key q: how do you balance pros/cons when event rates are 10^5 to 7 in both directions Worth reading by all involved in these debates πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ https://t.co/KIP3nG25kE

This is a great thread that says by showing what I will say: the control arm was beneath standard of care. It was known at the time it occurred. That's bad. This is a huge problem in oncology. It's bad for patients, but good for profits. πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ Sad https://t.co/k0A0zHys3P

Covid19, like tuberculosis, is almost never spread outdoors. At what point will the majority accept that outdoor interventions have produced little or no public health benefit? https://t.co/Z4p2EkNMNS

Concerning that many of the folks who were (rightly) worried that Trump would pressure agencies to approve vaccines on a political timeline last year seem to be very quiet about the Biden admin doing the same on boosters. https://t.co/aZlYSJM6OA

You may not agree with every point he makes or how he expresses them, but our public discourse would be strengthened if everyone interested in covid read and debated this paper by Ioannidis. I think it's a solid and balanced take, raising many open issues. @VPrasadMDMPH https://t.co/pWrmuiK7qn

The US CDC recommends that vaccinated individuals, with no symptoms and no known exposure be exempt from regular, mandatory testing. How many university administrators know that and feel like it's one of the only recommendations to ignore on a fully-vaxed campus? 1/2

I believe that most of the world (including most of Europe and the Americas) is entering the final phase of the pandemic. There will be outbreaks over the coming months/years but I don't anticipate Covid-19 waves comparable to those we've experienced over the last 18 months. 1/

Following a review of primary school masking guidance by Ireland’s Health Information and Quality Authority, the coronavirus emergency team within the country’s Department of Health has decided primary school students under 13 won’t have to mask, which maintains existing policy. https://t.co/yGBSueRzo3

No one seems to be interested in the actual RCT data on long-term protection of Pfizer in 6 countries at 152 sites. Among 45k participants, while there was a gradual decline, high efficacy against Covid-19 & severe disease was preserved for at least 6m. https://t.co/q2J1jQfAaP

The best data by far on #LongCovid is out from the ONS For kids, the news is incredibly reassuring - parents minds should be put to rest Rates of common symptoms after #COVID19 at 12 w for kids are extremely low (0% to 1.7%) compared to controls https://t.co/XDRXLQQqjb 1/
